huhuhu~its da last week of my holiday and i cant even finish setting up a laptop...A laptop...well, its not like im setting it seriously. dis laptop dat im using is experimental one. an old laptop with microsoft windows xp sp1 home edtion. pretty old huh? but im cool with dat.
u see, what im tryin to do all dis time is to change dis old laptop without compatibility with new softwares with something more powerful, something a lot cooler, and unique without having to spend more money by maintaining the original parts. In other words, -without upgrading-.
it has been a year now since i started dis project.ive tried changing the look with xp-seven theme, but it cuts the performance of this laptop. i tried using xp2seven transformation pack but it cant work because my laptops RAM size is not enough. i also tried upgrading its original OS into sp3 and change the visuals to low.....totally uncool and slow.
when im on the verge of givin up, a ray of hope shines....yes, a ray of light from a penguin..LINUX'S PENGUIN!!! hahahaha. i soon learns that linux does not need very high hardware capability and it does look COOLER than windows(cant compare with apple of course). since my hardware capability is low, LINUX is perfect for me. but the only problem is, which one is the best distro for my laptop? after having a long thought, i narrowed down my choices to 3 distros based on the easeness of use, graphic, n performance. here is the list and the interface of each distro:
1.Ubuntu
ubuntu is the combination of power, style and user friendly. linux noobs as well as windows user will find that ubuntu would very much suite thier taste.
2.Kubuntu
Kubuntu is basically ubuntu in k environment(not that i know what that means..im still a noob). if want an OS with great graphics and performance, Kubuntu is the right choice.
3.Puppy linux
Puppy is the smallest distro. by small i mean the RAM size it needs is just about 64MB to 512MB. it have all...yes u heard it rite, ALL applications u want. n all of them are custom made, which made for puppy and comes with puppy. pretty cool huh? u named it and puppy has it pre-installed unlike ubuntu n kubuntu which u need to install it urself. but rest assured, ubuntu n kubuntu does not pre-installed it because they want YOU to choose whether u want it or not. they have the packages and u only need to unpack it to install. dont need to search on the internet =)
what, ME? nonono, i dont choose...well, i cant choose. to me, all three of them r good. i want to make this laptop able to boot xp,ubuntu, and kubuntu. and im successfull with dat halfways. hehe. and i use puppy for backup. why? because, even though puppy has it all, but the graphic and sound quality is not as good as the other two. so its better on emergencies. one more thing, u can also boot your pc or laptop via CD/DVD, USB, HD and Diskette(if anybody ever use one now). errr....diskette is for puppy only since puppy is small ya see. so, what i have to do is just make my usb bootable for puppy(all my usb are 128 and 256MB at most). ubuntu and kubuntu needs about 1GB to make one.
thats all fer now. ADIOS amigos!!
